My Christmas Tree!

Its officially Christmas now! I'm no scrooge and my decorations go up at the end of November (and I have been known to put them up earlier) and I never see the problem with getting festive early. Heres a little peek into my winter wonderland!

Its the first year we've had a white tree and I love it! I went for a candy stripe look with my tinsel and lights. I'm very sentimental when it comes to my decorations and all of them mean something to me and every year we add a new one. This year we made an adorable finger print decoration with Lux that I'm waiting to get glazed, hopefully I'll share it soon.

Every year my homemade christmas village comes out and this year it was nestled behind the tree on the bookcase keeping some of my festive films company.

This is one of my favourite decorations, its a pic of my old dog Zac who was my best buddy who sadly passed away a few years ago. I love that he's always a part of our Christmas traditions.

I made this decoration of Bellamy from felt and his legs, tail and ears move!

Cheasire cat ornament from Disneyland! I have quite a few from Disneyland as you'll see.

This Lady and the Tramp decoration is so adorable as they have moving heads that kiss!

My fairy is very special, she's from China town in San Fransisco where we went as part of our honeymoon. I love that she's not you're typical star or angel!

Our Santa is from Hawaii, another one from our honeymoon.

I love this glamours pin up decoration! I little touch of naughty for the tree!

You've got to have some unicorns on your tree right?

Even Lux has her own tree in her room with little fairy decorations and cupcakes all made by me!

I hope you enjoyed putting up your tree, whats you're favourite Christmas decoration?

Naughty or Nice Mince Pie's Recipe!

Have you been naughty or nice this year? Well, you may wish you'd been a little bit more naughty when you have a taste of these mince pies! The nice pies are beautifully traditional and everyone will enjoy them while the naughty pies have a devilish secret, they are laced with brandy! Well, it is Christmas after all!

Wellcome to The Great Blogger Bake Off Christmas special! I'm so happy to be baking again for our friendly bake off and sharing our mince pie recipes! You can take look at all my past GBBO recipes here

To make my Naughty or Nice Mince Pies you'll need:

  • 1 1/2 cups of unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • Pinch on salt
  • 1/2 tsp of baking powder
  • 3 cups of plain flour
  • Small amount of warm water if mix is too dry
  • 1 jar of mincemeat
  • 1/4 cup of brandy
  • Milk for top of pies
  • Set of baking letter stamps

  • Preheat the oven to 180c. To make the pastry add the flour, icing sugar, salt and baking powder in a large bowl and mix. Then add the butter and mix using your finger tips to make a breadcrumb like texture. Add a drop of water if the mix is too dry until you can knead your pastry into a smooth ball. Your ready to roll out and cut out your pies using a cookie cutter. Line the baking tray with butter so the pies don't stick when baking.

To make the "naughty" mince pie filling just use half the mincemeat from your jar and add 1/4 cup of brandy! Mix and let it stand for about 30 mins so the fruit soaks up all the booze! Leave out the booze  for the "nice" pie filling.

Cut out the pie lids using a cookie cutter and with the baking letter stamps stamp out "naughty" and "nice", easy! You may need to practice a bit like I did in the corner of the pastry to make sure you get it right!

Fill your pies with the "naughty" and "nice" mincemeats and place on the lids according to the filling, try not to mix them up!

Brush a little milk onto the top of the pies to help them brown. Bake the pies for about 13-15 mins or until golden brown and leave to cool before serving, if you can wait that is!

Feel free to leave them under the tree for Santa, I can guarantee they will be gone by morning!

Christmas Showcase - The Kindness Shop

This Christmas I'm showcasing some of my favourite makers and illustrators in the bid to support all things handmade and show you some of the most amazing, affordable and orignal gift ideas around!

Welcome to my new favourite Etsy shop, The Kindness Shop! Its run by the lovely Kate from the famous Scathingly Brilliant blog and like everything from Kate, its made with love and kindness. $1 from each sale will be donated to Random Acts, a charity close to Kate's heart which promotes and helps fund random acts of kindness.

I bought this Always be Kind Brooch brooch for Lux as part of her Christmas present so she'll keep it with as she grows up!

I love Kate's meaning behind this brooch "I find that most modern clothing & jewelry with messages emblazoned on them tend to be mean or self-centered. Rather than proudly proclaiming that "you can't sit at our table" (I know it's a Mean Girls reference, but come on -- the movie was not glorifying that kind of thing. Didn't anyone get it??) be the person with the brooch that invites someone to join you instead."

Spread some kindness this Christmas with Kate's brooches and magnets. Its for a good cause and shouldn't Christmas be all about kindness?
