Week 2 - Dinosaur Artwork Prep!
Welcome back to my Design Challenge and its week 2! This week I'm creating the digital designs ready to be laser cut AKA Artwork Prep!
Big thanks to my lovely Patreons for voting between these 2 cute dinos designs and they voted for the Stegosaurs Necklace! Whoop! This gorgeous stego is going to have glittery hearts on its back and moving legs! Yes, my experiment to make moving pieces in my jewellery worked! I'm so excited as this is gonna change the way I design my jewellery in the future and if it wasn't for this challenge I wouldn't have tried something new!
I've also been choosing the colour palette and which acrylics to use. I'm loving the pastel, frosted and glittery tones which work perfectly together to create a cohesive collection!
Here is my Triceratops Necklace design! This cutie will feature moving legs (YES) tiny heart toes and a glittery horn! Adorable!
This is the Prehistoric Landscape Necklace which will be the statement piece of the collection with its Trex, volcanoes (with glitter lava), curly ferns and flying terrordactyls!
This is my pin design with the super cute words "You are Dino-mite!" I want to have a pin for each collection as I think its a great edition and gives my customers a little bit more choice.
Here is my Dino's in Love design that my patreon's voted to make into a brooch! It's going to be made from baby pink and spearmint acrylic.
This cutie is my Trex earrings and guess what...they will have moving jaws! They are going to be so cute! They will be a dangle earring made in spearmint.
And this is my final piece of the collection, my Dino ring featuring a sleeping little dino with cute little hearts! She'll be made from baby pink acrylic and I'll do some tests with which colours to use to fill in the design.
Once the designs are finished I trace them, take a photo of the tracing then send them to Jon (my partner) who helps me create the digital files in illustrator. Together we refine the designs, smooth out lines and make little design tweaks.
Once the files are ready we send them to over to Neil at Bristol Design Forge to laser cut the prototypes next week! Whoop!
You can watch my video diary for this week here!
So next week we'll be getting the 1st round of prototypes and making changes. Exciting times! Its always fun to see how the designs translate into acrylic pieces and it's time to think creatively when problems arise and theres always improvements to be made.
